I used to wonder why some people applied sunscreen so religiously 👀. Never felt it was that important in my skin care routine until I did and now?💁 You wouldn’t catch this gal without a screen sun…Sorry sunscreen 😁.
I also thought because I had more melanin I didn’t need me some sunscreen…Well, not true! Sunscreen is for every skin tone!
Melanin wouldn’t protect your skin from extreme sun exposure, skin aging, wrinkles or skin cancer.
Also learnt sunscreens are not all the same. They protect against different levels of sun exposures. Proper use of sunscreens can guard against skin damage and sunburn.
It is the last thing I apply on my skin before heading out in this roasty naija climate.
Here’s my list:
1. Black Girl Sunscreen (SPF 30) :
This was made for the black girl indeed. This blends seamlessly on my dark skin without any white cast or chalky residue. Plus it has a subtle dewy glow. Great protection and great moisturizer. Me lovey! They even have the kid’s version 😍. I’ll give it a 8.5 out of 10
2. CeraVe AM & PM Moisturizing Lotion (SPF 30):
This duo is the bomb dot com . This is a really good moisturizing sunscreen. I like the way it absorbs quickly and it’s not greasy at all.
AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion : It’s really hydrating! Well it contains ceramides, hyaluronic and niacinamide acid, so that’s expected. The white cast fades after some time. I use it after my serum. Prefer using it when I’m not wearing makeup. Not great under my makeup.
PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion: This is by far my favourite night-time moisturizer. My skin loves this product. Leaves it smooth and soft, absorbs like a dream and it’s not heavy on the skin.
AM gets a 7.0 out of 10 and the PM 9.0 😊
3. La Roche Posay Sunscreen (SPF 50 & 60):
@hellobeauty on instagram recommended this one, I’ll say it gives a matte finish compared to both products above. I apply this over my moisturizer.
For a long time this was my go to sunscreen. Although noticed when I sweat, looks like my face is lactating 😆. Not ‘sessy’ at all!
The spray version on the other hand, gives a dewy look and absorbs beautifully into the skin. Doesn’t clog my pores or leave me greasy or white.
Both get a 8.0
4. Frenzyderm Sunscreen Velvet Technology:
This sunscreen is pretty unique. The bottle looks fancy too. Not your regular sunscreen, it’s velvety and mattifying. My favourite!😍 Works pretty well under my makeup. Guess what? No white cast!
This gets a 9.0
5. Altruist Sunscreen (SPF 50):
Loved this at first because it’s hydrating, It’s the least expensive of the bunch and does a great job, but I do get pretty oily and shiny after applying it. Repurchase? I don’t think so. Still, not bad. Actually prefer the spray.
Lotion gets a 5.5 and the spray a 6.5
6. Olay Total Effects 7 in One Moisturizer + Serum Duo (SPF 20):
This 7 in 1 moisturizer and serum is really good. Having a serum, moisturizer and spf in one bottle is gold! I use this before going on a run in the mornings. Keeps my skin moisturized without greasing, glides smoothly and quite radiant.
It gets a 8.0💓
Do you use sunscreens? If you do, which is/are your favourite(s)?
